Begun in 1997, the
annual Vision Quest Conference has become one of the premier
Aboriginal Community Development Conferences in the country.
Vision Quest represents
a successful partnership between five northern and Aboriginal
Community Futures organizations: Southeast, Northwest,
North Central, Dakota Ojibway and Kitayan.
Since its first year,
the conference has become an avenue by which community elders,
leaders and those working in the field of community economic
development come together to share common ideas, issues and
concerns. Over the years, the number of delegates has grown
from 250 to well over 500, including visitors from across Canada
and around the world.
Notable speakers have
included the esteemed Dr. David Suzuki, artist-activist Buffy
Ste. Marie and actor-recording artist Tom Jackson. The conference
has become a benchmark in the economic development of Aboriginal
communities. The continued goal of the organizers is to teach,
motivate and inspire.
