The dawn of a new business - Sunrise Bakery

Community Futures Winnipeg River

BSunrise Bakeryoth David and Roberta Desautels grew up in the Pine Falls/Powerview area, and when they graduated from High School they stayed in the community to work. Coming from families of entrepreneurs, they always knew they would someday operate their own business. When the well-established Einfeld’s Bakery in Powerview went up for sale, the young couple seized their chance to go into business for themselves.

Community Futures Winnipeg River provided the new entrepreneurs with technical assistance with their business plan; advisory services with respect to a share purchase agreement and a business loan.

Wisely the couple also worked with the previous owners for four months prior to finalizing the deal to learn the business and to ensure that the reputation and success of the bakery would be upheld.

Under the new business name Sunrise Bakery, the Desautels have since implemented upgrades to the baking equipment, increased the product line, and further expanded the delivery service. Their initiatives and strong dedication have resulted in revenue increases and the attainment of several large service contracts.
