White Horse Plains CFDC

Craigs Family Resteraunt - Shell StationFolks can’t seem to get enough of Craig’s Family Restaurant and who can blame them? The food is great and the atmosphere is down-home friendly.

Owner Craig Lyall opened his comfy eatery in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie in 1998 after receiving technical and financial assistance from White Horse Plains CFDC.

Lyall has always been involved in the food industry in a variety of capacities as the staff at White Horse Plains were well aware. They started working with Lyall in 1990 and assisted him to start a bakery and restaurant in the city of Portage la Prairie. A fire prevented him from continuing the business, and he pursued other interests for a time.

In 1997, he visited the office to work on a business plan which led him to open Craig’s Family Restaurant east of Portage la Prairie, in a facility which also contains a gas station card-lock and brings a high volume of traffic into his restaurant. Apart from Lyall, the business employs five full-time and four part-time staff.

Featuring a family-style menu the restaurant has a growing reputation as a great place to stop for the food and the fun. It seems Lyall has a very fine sense of humour — the kind that enhances the over-all atmosphere and keeps people coming back. The restaurant caters to families but has also become a destination for truckers and travelers looking for the good food and service Craig’s Family Restaurant provides.
